The City Council have issued the following release about the updating of membership records

Peterborough Libraries will undertake its annual spring clean of its membership database, removing details of people who have not used the service in the past 18 months, on Thursday 3 May.

Anyone who has registered with their local library and has not borrowed a book, CD, video, DVD or talking book within the past year-and-a-half, and does not owe any money, will be removed from the system. The spring clean will ensure the city’s library service comply with data protection legislation and give Peterborough City Council a true number of active members.

“The spring clean is a necessary, annual check of our membership database,” said Heather Walton, library and customer services manager. “However, if any members have not used their local library in the past 18 months they need not despair. It is very easy to re-join.

“All you need to do is visit your local library with your old card and an item of identification showing your current address, and new members are always welcome. To prevent this happening to you, please borrow books from your local library.”

Computer only users will also be included as the criteria for removal relates to items borrowed on the library card, not to the use of its computers.

For further details, call Jane Brown or Helen Sherley at Central Library on (01733) 742700. For opening hours and to find your local library, visit .
