Bus service to Tesco at Market Deeping

As many readers will have seen in the Evening Telegraph or heard on the Andy Burrows Show on BBC Radio Cambs, the last few weeks has seen a serious debate on the problems affecting the most vulnerable in our community during the period between the closure of Rainbow and the opening of the new Tesco store.

The potential problems which this created warranted the strongest action which we could achieve and with the support of the Werrington North Councillors, John and Judy Fox, together with Steve Lane, the Neighbourhood Council was able to mount a determined campaign which has led to the provision of a free bus service between Werrington Centre and the Tesco store at Market Deeping.

We would like to express our thanks to the Tesco management for accepting our input on this issue and for financing the alternative that has been provided.

The service will operate as follows

Monday, Wednesday and Friday

Depart Werrington Centre 0900 then every 30 minutes until 1300

Depart Tesco Market Deeping 0930 then every 30 minutes until 1330

The biggest issue remaining is the loss of the PayPoint terminal, which is essential for many of our local residents and both the Ward Councillors and the Neighbourhood Council continue to seek solutions to ensure that this essential service remains available to our local residents.

Neighbourhood Council leads the way on Neighbourhood Plan

In accordance with the requirements of National Government that every area in England and Wales should seek greater community input into investment, WNC is bringing together a team from local organisations to produce a Neighbourhood Plan.

Entitled ‘Growing together’ the project will include a questionnaire which will be delivered to every household in the Werrington Wards.

Every major organisation in the community has been invited to join the steering group which will attempt to ensure that every potential issue of interest to local residents is incorporated in the document.

Public Meetings will also be held to seek further input.

‘It is extremely important that as many groups as possible participate’ said David Hedges, who is co-ordinating the plan ‘and equally imperative that every resident should complete the questionnaire and return it to us’

Progress reports will appear here and in Spotlight magazine.
