Neighbourhood Plan and Neighbourhood Forum

.

Werrington Neighbourhood Council has the opportunity to apply for funding to develop a neighbourhood plan. This will shape the future of the area and everyone has the opportunity to be part of this. A Neighbourhood Plan is an important and powerful tool that will give Werrington statutory powers to shape how our community will develop. In very simple terms, a neighbourhood plan is:

• A document that sets out planning policies for the area
• Written by the local community, the people who know and love the area, rather than the City Council
• A powerful tool to ensure the community gets the right types of development, in the right place,
• A tool to help prevent high density development & infilling especially of our garden margins and green areas and protect our green spaces and trees

This will be a very long term project. Next year we will be asking Werrington what is important to them and from this feedback, local policies, the Neighbourhood Plan and a Community Action Plan will be developed.

HOWEVER, the first step is to designate the area of Werrington so look out for Peterborough City Council’s official consultation Click here

Then we need lots of people to join a Neighbourhood Forum to give their views and to help develop the plan. The meetings will be once every two or three months and you can be involved as much or as little. We need people from all parts of Werrington, with different ethnic backgrounds and all ages. We are especially keen to get the younger people (over 18s) involved. This community involvement will look great on a CV, so please come bring a couple of friends. Please note that this is a Neighbourhood Forum and, whilst members of the Neighbourhood Council are leading this, you will not be joining the Neighbourhood Council.

If you are interested we will send you an information pack. An information evening will be then be arranged in a few weeks time. Please contact our Secretary, Sally Weald on weald38@gmail.com or 38 Gildale to find out more and express an interest.
